FAQ: What level of navigation or map reading ability do I need?
Only the Back Before Dark 10km is flagged, on longer challenges (25-100km) you’ll be met by volunteers only at checkpoints.
If taking on the Copper or Bronze Challenge, we would expect you to be honestly able to state: “I can make sense of a normal ordnance survey map to find my way around, even if I don’t use the compass”. If this isn’t you, we ask you to book a beginners (Level 1) navigation course with @wilderness_development (or a different organisation) or join a guided team around the Peak District Challenge.
